Flexible Encapsulation For Harsh Environments

Reinforce Your Harnesses with Teksol

Developed exclusively by Alpha 3, our unique elastomer encapsulation coating, Teksol, will enable your assemblies to function effectively in demanding and harsh environments. It has been used in many industries and has been known to remain intact even when the application itself has been damaged.

Its exclusive material blend results in a fully encapsulated, fully flexible harness which can adapt to bends and curves within an application, whilst remaining tough and durable. Teksol is suited to demanding applications including military vehicles or aerospace applications due to the materials' resistance to impact, moisture, aviation fuels and other oils. Current applications include plane landing gear and anti-icing systems.

Teksol Properties

  • Broad operating temperature from -55°C to +250°C
  • Clipping points and fixings can be designed and built in
  • Lightweight with good abrasion resistance and extremely durable
  • Approved for flight use by FAA and EAA
  • Resistant to aviation fuels and fluids
  • High flexing (applications in excess of 250,000 bends achieved)
  • Meets FAR 25 flammability requirements
  • Highly accurate and repeatable forms and shapes

Teksol Applications

Wires from #8 AWG to #44 AWG, fibre optics and tubes can all be encapsulated into the protective overmould material, meeting the mechanical, environmental, and sealing needs of the system. Wiring systems can be configured to suit all applications but Teksol is particularly useful in the following types of applications:

  • Moving Control Surfaces
  • Flexing Joints
  • High Stress Areas
  • Restricted Spaces
  • Abrasive Areas
  • Spaces with high levels of moisture or oils

Complex harness configurations are constructed in 3D models, allowing our design team to deliver close tolerance harness shapes and fixings that are bespoke to the application and fit the available space. Fixing points can be integrated into the assembly, speeding up installation, reducing weight, and protecting against fatigue and chaffing.

Project - Vertical Flight Development

Alpha 3 used Teksol to design a solution for a helicopter manufacturer for a system that routes power and signal wires through the pitch horn and cyclic of a helicopter rotor head to individual rotor blades. The harnesses were fully sealed to protect them from continual flexing, high vibration, and extremes of temperature, as well as providing resistance to fuels, oils, and anti-icing chemicals.
